Schedule/Record

The Sunday League has 10 teams. We were team #4.

We ended the season in 2nd place. David was supposed to be in Africa for playoffs, so Marianna was going to sub for him. David & Bonnie cut their trip short, and arrived back in Boston around 4pm the Sunday of playoffs. So David made it to playoffs. This was fortuitous since Marianna had sprained her ankle the previous Tuesday, and, although she was going to play anyway, she wouldn't have been able to be her usual awesome VB self.

We had a bye the 1st round. Our 1st match was against Tim and Walter's team. We won in 3 games. This advanced us to the semi-final round where we played Ben's team. They were close games but we lost in 2. Ben's team went on to take the 1st 2 games from Happy Birthday to win the league. All in all, I thought we all played well, and it was a good playoff night (for one we didn't win smile).

Game Notes

9/9/2001
This was the 1st night, but I couldn't be there because I was in NYC with my grandfather who had had a heart attack.
Marianna was there to sub for me, and as I understand it Joe played as well.
9/16, 9/23 & 9/30/2001
Due to the terrorist attack on the World Trade Center in NYC, all armories were on a heightened state of alert, and therefore unavailable for volleyball.
10/7/2001
Tony was away, he and Marianna are in Hungary for a month, he should be back for 10/28. We started out slow and lost our 1st 2 games, our 2nd 2 games were against Walter's team with only 2 players.
10/14/2001
We all played pretty well today. The games we lost, we were playing without Pam, who for some reason got confused while answering a page and didn't rejoin the team until after the 2nd game was under way. The 1st game w/o Pam and with only 5 players, we (especially me!) did not adjust well to playing with 5. The 2nd game we started down 3 points and only lost by 1, so it was a moral victory !
10/21/2001
Well we had 6 players tonight, the 6 full time players now that Chris has decided not to play with us, because Tony was back! And we did great! It wa a really fun night, of course winning always makes it more fun, but we were just all playing well together.
10/28/2001
We had 6 players again (as we probably will for the rest of the season since Chris has dropped off the team). Another 8 and 0 night! And against some of the toughest teams there. Marianna was subbing for Diane, and played awesome volleyball spending a lot of time sprawled out on the flour! Everyone was on their game tonight, and the team played like a well oiled machine. Our last game of the night, time was running out we were down 2 points with Mike serving. A tough serve got us a quick point. The buzzer sounded during the next point which we won, and then for the final point David put up a tight set to Zak who powered the ball off the opposing teams middle and out!
11/4/2001
Everyone was there.
11/11/2001
Diane couldn't make it because she wasn't feeling well. Marianna subbed for her.
11/18/2001
Pam couldn't make it because she wasn't feeling well. Bonnie subbed for her at the last minute (we called her from the gym, and she managed to get home changed and show up in time to play 5 games.
11/25/2001
Everyone was there. And Marianna came as well so we played with 7.
12/9/2001
Playoffs.
