Game Notes

12/4/2005
We lost Evan, Zak and Julia, and I still haven't been able to find replacements for them. We had Matthew trying out with us.

David was on vacation in St. Croix. I had a couple of possibilities for new players but none have panned out so far. Zak was going sub for David, but injured his knee. Jeffrey played with us, as did this other fellow AJ who was trying out.
3/5/2006

This was playoff night. I've been really bad about keeping this page up-to-date and I'm not going to bother trying to fill it in now.

We ended this session in 6th place. Zak had subbed often enough that I asked him to come, so we had 7 players.

In the 1st round we faced off against Neal Goldman's team. We played reasonably and won the 1st 2 games. The next round we were the lowest seed and thus played the number 1 team, Dave Hatch's team (with Jim Armstrong, Lisa Patton etc.) We struggled and the won the 1st game. The 2nd game we caught fire, and although they were playing well we beat them. We then came out strong to win the tie-break 15 point game.

The 3rd round we faced a team which only had 5 players due to an injury. In some ways this was an advantage for them because for an initial 2 points their strongest hitter and blocker was in the front row more often. For whatever reason, we made lots of unforced errors and lost the 1st 2 games. We may have worn them down because that team lost the finals in 2 games to Tim Dwyer's team.

Lastly, Dave Hatch said goodbye. He said he's enjoyed playing with/against us all these years (as we have him), but he has decided to retire from volleyball. His excuse was that it's getting to be too much for his aging body! We'll miss you Dave.
